What To Do When Robbers Strike

The following is what the police counsel in the event that robbers manage to enter on to your premises or inside your house. Read the tips and help save a life.

1. Robbers typically launch their attacks from the backdoor (normally kitchen doors) because they are usually not fortified. Get good doors for your kitchen. Use crossbars at the back or "burglarproof" behind the doors inside the house. If you have keys to the burglarproof, never leave them inside the lock. Where possible, use a padlock in addition to the keys. The purpose is to make it as difficult as possible for the robbers to enter into the house and to buy you time to call somebody for help.

2. When you hear someone breaking your doors, unless you are absolutely sure your actions will prevent entry into the house, don't try to be a hero by pushing back behind the doors (they may shoot at you through the doors), or putting heavy items like freezers or furniture behind it (they get more angry and when they are able to finally enter they are more likely to be violent).

3. If you sleep without clothes or with minimal clothing, dress up as soon as you hear them. For the women especially, don't stay in your nighties or wrappers, wear trousers and an ugly top.

4. If you call someone on the phone for help, keep the phone far from you as you don't want it to be known that you've done so.

Why I Hit Back At Muntari - Moses Armah

 

The President of Medeama Sporting Club, Moses Armah, says he was provoked by Sulley Muntari to retaliate after he was attacked by the Black Stars midfielder during a meeting in Brasilia last week.

The usually calm Mr Armah, also known as Mospacka, a member of the FA Executive Committee, said he reluctantly hit back after he had received two slaps from the player.

"Initially, I didn't want to touch him because he is a player but I was compelled to defend myself when he slapped my face twice," Mr Armah told the Graphic Sports in an interview yesterday.

Narrating his ordeal to the Graphic Sports on phone from the US, the Black Stars Management Committee member said he and his colleagues found Muntari's behaviour very strange, as if he was possessed.

According to him, it all started when the players called the management members to a meeting regarding the team's appearance fees last Tuesday following a sudden boycott of training earlier that day.

He said during the meeting the players were assured of payment of their money as promised by the government earlier.

American movie industry, Hollywood, is to make a movie based on the bizarre transfer of three million dollars meant for the Black Stars from Ghana to Brazil via a chartered flight.

The Guardian reported Monday that the screenplay, to be written by Darryl Wharton-Rigby, will centre on a courier tasked with bringing $3m (£1.76m) across the Atlantic to Brazil in an effort to stop the Ghanaian football team quitting the competition in protest at lack of pay.

It is based on a real-life impasse which affected the west African team prior to their exit at the group stage last week, though fictional elements will be incorporated to further spice up the proposed movie, the report stated.

3,800 Liberian Refugees Granted Residence Permit

The government has granted residence permits to 3,800 Liberian refugees who have chosen to integrate into the Ghanaian society, the Representative of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), Ms Chansa Kapaya, has said.

The integration falls within the framework of the local integration policy for refugees approved by Ghana.

The integrated Liberians would receive Liberian passports affixed with Ghanaian residence permit, which would give them an alternative legal status in Ghana.

Ms Kapaya made this known at a ceremony to mark the celebration of 2014 World Refugee Day in Accra.

The theme for the celebration, which was marked on Thursday, was “One Family Torn Apart by War is Too Many.”

The event focused on redirecting the attention of the public to the suffering of millions of refugees and internally displaced persons around the world.

The day was organised by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and supported by the Ghana Refugee Authority, Ministry of the Interior and other stakeholders.

The UNHCR commended Ghana for hosting the refugees for the past two decades and for agreeing to enrol refugees onto the national identification and the national health schemes.

Speaking at the event, Ms Kapaya said the day was also set aside to honour the courage, strength and determination of women, men and children who were forced to flee their homes under threat of persecution and violence.

Ghanaian Sex Workers Angry With Sports Ministry

Ghanaian sex workers are angry with the country’s Sports Ministry for sidelining them ahead of the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil.

Leader of the Ghanaian prostitutes, Maame Esi, feels they have been left in the dark as the country prepares to fly out 500 fans to the global showpiece in Brazil this week.

“I don’t understand why they will not include us among the fans who will travel to Brazil,” Esi told Accra-based Happy FM.
“We are also Ghanaians and have a lot to offer to the players and the fans as well.

“We’ll be there to entertain the players and the fans. We shall reduce the price so everybody will be happy. The cost of buying Brazilian hair is expensive but I promise that we’ll make everybody happy when we get the chance to be in Brazil.”
