More dead bodies continue to be discovered by the police in the raging conflict between the Konkombas and the Bimobas at Bombilla and Bogni in the East Mamprusi District of the Northern Region.
Police on Saturday morning picked up the body of Biligut Bilabir, 33, at Kamputin, a Konkomba community, after he was allegedly shot and killed by some belligerent persons who chopped off his hands and genitals.
DAILY GUIDE can confirm that about 11 houses in the Kamputin village were also completely burnt after the dawn raid by the rival group.
The latest discovery brings to five the number of confirmed deaths in the area since the renewed clashes last Thursday.
Other communities in the Bunkpurugu-Yunyoo district are being roped into the conflict with residents of Boaterigu and Nasuan reportedly arming themselves in support of their relations.
Meanwhile, the police have arrested three Konkomba men with two AK 47 assault rifles and a shot gun with 30 rounds of ammunition at a Mamprusi farming community called Boaterigu, near Nakpanduri,.
They include Adam Alhassan Issah, Sulemana Dassan and Kwabena Bapua, all natives of Nasuan, a Konkomba settlement in the Bunkpurugu-Yunyoo district.
The suspects were arrested at their hideouts on Saturday, while allegedly planning a reprisal attack in one of the villages. The Bunkpurugu-Yunyoo Police, who confirmed the arrest and latest deaths to DAILY GUIDE during its visit to the area, hinted that the suspects might be transferred to Tamale for prosecution.
The police had earlier indicated that there was relative calm after last Thursday’s reprisal attacks that claimed the life of Sakuaka Dinja, 32.
But tension is said to be enveloping most of the communities with the suspicion that the combatants only lay low to plan reprisal attacks on the blind side of the security agencies.
Renewed clashes between the two ethnic groups, it would be recalled, began last Thursday resulting in the death of one person.
It followed an alleged dawn raid by persons believed to be of Konkomba extraction in the Bombilla community. It claimed the life of a 32-year-old farmer.
Enraged relations of the deceased allegedly massed up and launched a reprisal attack at Bongni, which also resulted in the torching of several houses and the death of two persons whose identity could still not be established.
Four others persons, according to the Northern Regional Police Public Relations Officer (PRO), ASP Ebenezer Tetteh, sustained gunshot wounds and were treated and discharged at the Baptist Medical Centre in Nalerigu.
Fifteen houses were completely burnt down with several bans of food destroyed in the heat of the attacks.
Most residents, for fear of a recurrence, have fled the troubled communities into neighbouring farming villages while armed security personnel are on the ground to forestall further clashes.
It is unclear what could have fuelled the latest violence which began late Wednesday night with sporadic exchanges of gunfire from both sides.
Sources have linked its remote cause to the long-standing chieftaincy and land dispute in the area.
