6 Apps to help keep your long-distance relationship going strong

6 Apps to help keep your long-distance relationship going strong
Being in a long-distance relationship isn’t always ideal, but there are some varied reasons for why that may happen. It could be a new relationship where you met and liked each other and are waiting to see where things go before making a bigger commitment. It could be a job change or someone serving the country. It could just be strange circumstances that keeps you physically apart.

Back in the day, I used to hear that long-distance relationships never worked. Mostly because if you’re not able to be in contact with someone or talk to them, how can you expect to maintain the bond? Now, nurturing your love from afar is easier thanks to technology.

Smartphones have made many aspects of our lives easier, and love is no exception. Apps that allow you to keep in better contact with your partner no matter the physical distance are popping up all over the place.

Here are 6 for you to keep in mind if you’re looking to stay in touch, long-distance.

1. Skype

I’ve been using Skype for a long time for all sorts of things, from keeping in contact with my grandma who doesn’t live near me to using the app to conference call for work. It gives you the option of using the chat section like an SMS, only the voice function just like you would use a telephone, or you can turn on the video to see who you’re talking to. This offers a lot of options for couples looking for some connection.

2. WhatsApp

No one wants to deal with the long-distance charges you accumulate on your phone looking to talk to your partner. That’s where WhatsApp comes in. This app allows you to text as you normally would, make phone calls, or send audio and video messages. It only uses your data plan or WiFi settings, so there are no extra charges while you chat each other goodnight.

3. SnapChat

If you want to share photos of yourself or what you’re up to with your partner quickly, try SnapChat. This app allows you to share with someone those everyday photos you don’t want clogging up your own phone storage.

4. Avocado

This app is like your relationship calendar, honey-to-do list, and so much more. You can send photos, kisses and hugs, and remind each other of the date night you scheduled through Skype. If you like to be organized and want all the important things in one place, this app will keep both of you in check.

5. Couple — Relationship App for Two

If you love the idea of Facebook but don’t like how it’s all out there, this app is a good alternative. The Couple app allows you to have your own private newsfeed; it also has a calendar function so you remember all those important dates. One of the cooler features of this app is their ThumbKiss™, which is like kissing but uses the vibrations of your phone and your thumb.

6. HeyTell

Do you remember walkie-talkies when you were a kid and how much fun they were? This app is basically the same thing — only on your phone. With the touch of a button on the screen, you can have conversations with each other or leave a little love note whenever you feel like it. Just like those old-day walkie-talkies, it’s kind of like a text message, but the added bonus of your own voice.
