Two Nigerian nationals who broke into
a vehicle parked around the Tarkwa Post Office Square and made away
with 250,000 Ghana cedis have been nabbed by the Tarkwa Police.
The suspects, Abilo Solomon Zhigozie, 22 and Nnandi Okafo, 24 have been remanded into police custody.
Chief
Superintendent Ernest Kuukure Maayeb, District Police Commander in
Tarkwa told the Ghana News Agency that on Wednesday March 19 the
suspects who claimed to be visiting Tarkwa for the first time were
riding on Amsonic motor bike with registration number M-14-AS-338 said
they wanted an office accommodation to do business.
He said on
that same day at about, 1140 hours, the victim John Adusa, a business
man parked his saloon car with registration number WR-777-13 around the
Tarkwa Post Office Square and took a black polythene bag containing
money.
After the victim had removed a bundle of 50 Ghana cedis notes he placed the remaining in the letter box lock his car and left.
Superintendent
Maayeb said immediately the victim left Abilo moved to the car forced
the door and the letter box opened and took the black polythene bag
containing 250,000 Ghana cedis.
According to the District
Commander, a witness who was watching Abilo, raised alarm as soon as he
came out of the car to meet his accomplice Nnandi who was then waiting
on the motor bike to take him away after the operation.
He said the young men around joined the witness and the suspects were arrested and handed over to the police.
Superintendent Maayeb said they would be arranged soon in Tarkwa.
The
District Police Commander stressed that as the Police Service was doing
all it could to protect life and property and cautioned the public to
be security conscious to help in preventing the increasing cases of
robbery in the municipality.
