Jose Mourinho has played down
Chelsea's chances in the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals against
Paris Saint-Germain, even going so far as pledging to make a donation to
charity should his team overcome the French side.
'I
believe that PSG will be very happy to play against us,' Mourinho
smiled, addressing the media after Chelsea's 6-0 victory over Arsenal,
'Everyone wanted us, therefore they must be happy to be drawn against us
and we are happy because we we want to compete against the best. It is
important for our evolution both as a team as an individual, notably for
our young players.
A French journalist revealed to
Mourinho that PSG players are reportedly in line for £1million win
bonuses if the Parisien side won the UEFA Champions League this season -
a fee negotiated by Zlatan Ibrahimovic - and the Chelsea boss joked
that he'd be prepared to pay out a big cheque if Chelsea achieved the
improbable.
'If we win it this season, I am going to make a big donation to charity!'
Chelsea
will play the first leg away in the Parc des Princes but Mourinho went
against common consensus when it was suggested to him that there was a
benefit to be found in playing the return match at home.
'Why?',
he asked quizzically, 'The return leg is always an advantage for the
team that plays away, not the team that plays at home because if it goes
to extra-time, the away team have thirty minutes more to score a goal
that counts for double.'
